Course Information

The GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) course is the essential starting point for anyone pursuing a career in the renewable and wind energy sector, both onshore and offshore. This five-module, Global Wind Organisation-accredited training package covers all key areas of wind industry safety, equipping participants with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to manage hazards and respond effectively in emergency situations. On completion, delegates will receive individual GWO certificates for each module—valid for two years—ensuring full compliance for working in turbine environments.

  • This course is ideal for individuals looking to start or develop a career in the wind and renewable energy industry, whether working onshore or offshore. No previous experience is required, making it perfect for entry-level professionals.

  • The course includes five essential modules:

    • GWO Working at Height & Manual Handling (combined)

    • GWO First Aid

    • GWO Fire Awareness

    • GWO Sea Survival
      These modules cover safety, rescue, emergency procedures, and hazard awareness specific to wind turbine environments.

  • Training is delivered through a blend of theory and practical exercises in purpose-built facilities. Delegates must complete both written multiple-choice assessments and practical evaluations for each module.

  • Each GWO module certificate is valid for two years. After that, you’ll need to complete a Refresher Course to stay compliant. Delegates may also consider additional qualifications like IOSH Working Safely or IRATA Rope Access Level 1 to further expand their offshore career opportunities.
