Course Information
The GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) course is a globally recognised certification designed for individuals looking to enter or upskill in the wind energy sector. Developed by the Global Wind Organisation, this blended training programme provides both theoretical and practical knowledge across three core disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic systems. Delegates will learn to carry out basic technical tasks under supervision, understand industry-specific hazards, and safely work on wind turbine generators both onshore and offshore. This training, alongside GWO Basic Safety Training (BST), provides a strong foundation for a career in wind turbine installation, servicing, or maintenance.

This course is ideal for individuals with no prior experience in hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical systems, as well as those who have general knowledge but are looking to apply their skills specifically to wind turbine operations.
The training includes three core modules:
-
Mechanical Module: Turbine components, brake and gearbox systems, bolted connections, inspection procedures
-
Electrical Module: Electrical safety, circuit assembly, sensors, diagrams, and safe measurement
-
Hydraulic Module: Pump types, valves, actuators, accumulators, oil handling, hydraulic diagrams and pressure measurement
-
Yes! The blended BTT format allows delegates to complete the theory modules online before attending the centre for practical training. This reduces the course duration from 4 to 3 days and helps save on travel and accommodation costs.
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive GWO Basic Technical Training certification in Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic systems. This certification demonstrates your ability to carry out supervised technical tasks in the wind industry and is widely recognised by employers worldwide.
