The GWO First Aid Course is a key module in the Global Wind Organisation's Basic Safety Training and is essential for anyone working in the onshore or offshore wind energy industry. This course equips delegates with the critical knowledge and hands-on skills required to deliver safe, effective first aid in turbine environments. Covering everything from emergency incident response to AED use and injury assessment, the training combines practical simulations with theory-based learning, ensuring full preparedness for real-life scenarios. Upon successful completion, delegates receive a GWO First Aid Certificate, valid for two years.

  • This course is part of the GWO Basic Safety Training package and is designed for anyone working in the renewable energy sector, especially those who operate in remote or high-risk environments like wind turbines. It ensures workers can deliver lifesaving first aid in emergency situations.

  • The training includes:

    • Primary and secondary surveys (A-B-C technique)

    • Use of an AED (automated external defibrillator)

    • Managing serious and minor injuries

    • Emergency scene management in turbine settings

    • Legal requirements and best practices (ERC & AHA guidelines)

  • Delegates will complete both a practical assessment and a written multiple-choice exam, demonstrating their ability to apply first aid techniques correctly and confidently in a wind turbine environment.

  • The GWO First Aid certificate is valid for two years. After that, delegates must complete a GWO First Aid Refresher course. For career progression, learners can also consider training such as IOSH Managing Safely or IRATA Rope Access Level 1.
