The GWO Slinger Signaller / Rigger Signal Person Course is designed for individuals working in the wind energy sector who are involved in lifting and slinging operations. Introduced by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) in response to industry safety concerns, this course equips delegates with the essential skills and knowledge to conduct lifts safely, support crane operations, and communicate effectively using standardised hand signals. Through a mix of theory and practical training, participants learn how to inspect lifting accessories, handle loads, and execute lifts in line with lift plans and safety procedures. Certification is valid for two years.

  • This course is ideal for wind industry professionals who are responsible for or involved in lifting operations, including attaching, detaching, and signalling during crane lifts. It's especially relevant for those working in offshore wind or turbine construction environments.

  • You will learn how to:

    • Safely attach and detach loads from crane lifting equipment

    • Direct crane movements using hand signals (per BS7121 standards)

    • Perform pre- and post-lift inspections

    • Sling/rig various types of loads considering their weight and centre of gravity

    • Carry out lifts in accordance with established lift plans and site procedures

  • Delegates will complete practical exercises and a written assessment to demonstrate their understanding of safe slinging and signalling techniques and their ability to follow lift procedures.

  • The GWO Slinger Signaller certificate is valid for two years. The course is aligned with both GWO standards and BS7121, the UK code of practice for crane safety, ensuring delegates meet industry requirements for lifting operations.
