Course Information
The IRATA Rope Access Training Programme is the global benchmark for rope access safety, offering three progressive levels of certification accredited by the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA). Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to advance to lead technician or supervisor status, these structured courses develop your rope work, rescue, and rigging skills to meet industry standards. Training runs over five days and includes theory, hands-on exercises, and assessment. IRATA qualifications are valid for three years, after which refresher or revalidation courses are required to maintain certification and competency.

Level 1 is for beginners with no prior rope access experience.

Level 2 is for technicians with a valid Level 1 certificate and 1,000+ logged rope access hours.

Level 3 is for experienced technicians with a valid Level 2 certificate, 1,000+ hours, and first aid training, aiming to take on supervisory responsibilities.

You’ll learn core rope access techniques including:

Ascent and descent

Rope-to-rope transfers

Knot crossing, aid climbing, rigging basics

Rescue drills and using a back-up system
This training prepares you for entry-level work under the supervision of a Level 3 technician.

A valid IRATA certificate (Level 1 or 2 depending on the course)

A completed IRATA Logbook with 1,000+ logged hours

For Level 3, you’ll also need an in-date first aid certificate and knowledge of IRATA ICOP guidelines

IRATA certifications are valid for three years. You can take a refresher or revalidation course up to six months before your expiry date. Early requalification retains your original expiry cycle, ensuring uninterrupted accreditation.
