Course Information

The OGUK Offshore Medical is a mandatory health assessment for anyone working offshore in the UK sector and North Sea. Conducted by physicians approved by the UKOOA Health Advisory Committee, this comprehensive medical exam ensures workers are fit to safely perform duties in offshore environments. Valid for two years, the OGUK certificate is recognised as the industry standard across oil and gas sectors worldwide. The assessment includes tests such as vision and hearing checks, BMI, blood pressure, lung function, and the Chester Step Test, among others, ensuring both employee and operational safety.

  • Anyone working offshore in the UK or North Sea is required to pass the OGUK Offshore Medical to ensure they are medically fit for duty. This applies to all offshore personnel, regardless of age or role.

  • The medical consists of several components, including:

    • Chester Step Test (a cardiovascular fitness test)

    • Vision and colour blindness screening

    • Hearing test (audiogram)

    • Urinalysis, BMI calculation, and blood pressure check

    • Lung function test (peak flow)

    • Full medical consultation and patient questionnaire

  • Yes. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual, CCEA (Northern Ireland), and Qualifications Wales, and is awarded by Highfield, one of the UK’s leading providers of compliance qualifications.
